Haymaker 2 has it exactly right. There is no way to establish real tax burden. My sister in Nevada pays no income tax, but her auto registration is based on the value of her car. I think she told me it was almost $800.00 when it was new, People in other states are charged a chattel tax on their possessions such as a TV or hot tub. Some folks are in water or lighting or fire districts which are normally lumped in with the tax bill and are not always obvious.
In NY each town has its own valuation. Then things are not even equal. I get a 5% reduction for being a veteran on my property. I just turned 65 so next year I will be eligible for "enhanced STAR" which will cut my taxes even more.
