I never split them in the vehicle unless I have to I do have a lift when I split them I roll it to the rear and hang the transfer case from the rear bumper it makes it a one man job coming apart and going back together...
I have several jacks if need be make brackets ( I should already have them in my Ho-Made tool box) to bolt the TC to a jack to remove it ( Its not Hard) then use another jack to remove the trans...
If you use your head you can make it a one man job with out a fight...
