That is what we call a Heart Shaped front axle,, only last few years of production came with them, but I have seen LOTS of them installed on older units as case offered the front end as a kit to upgrade older units to this axle,, yes D Series like the S Series had foot clutch in 53-54 model years, live hyd and live pto were options starting in 1952,, hyd came in 1949, the DC-4 in the pic is a 53 or 54 model,, foot clutch was offered in the DI and SI industrial units long before that I have early 40's models with it
