I have had prescription orthotics for about 25 years, really helped me a lot. They cost a lot more that $50 a pair, but insurance covered most of it. But, a couple of years ago I developed plantar fasciitis, only in one foot, but very painful, so I went to a podiatrist. He gave me a cortisone shot that temporarily took the pain away, but not much advice about what to do. Thankfully my friend went to a much better podiatrist, and he gave him a lot of advice. One thing was to get some special orthotics, over the counter, called Powerstep Pinacle plus, and they are great, and only about $30 on Amazon. In the wintertime we hike up to 10 miles at a time in the mountains of Arizona, and now we are doing about 4 miles a day in MN, and I have almost forgotten about the problem. Another important solution is to not wear cheap shoes/boots, I have a pair of Oboz hiking boots now that are great.
