It kind of matters what you mean by "strong". Do you mean high tensile strength? Or do actually need something that's malleable so it can be repeatedly bent without breaking?
Back in the days when I worked in aerospace, I learned that the wire used in TOW missiles was the highest tensile strength wire made at the time. It is really fine stuff; 3750 meters is spooled on a small bobbin. I think the process for making this wire is a trade secret, but I seem to recall it had to be very low carbon to get the required tensile strength in such a fine wire. And of course it is a one-time use item.
A surprisingly tough wire is the material used in surveyor's flags, if you happen to have some of those around. We used to use flags for all kinds of things, including as gas welding rods. You can get 100 flags for 8 bucks at HD.
