Veering a little off topic, but I am almost certain Allis Chalmers built generator heads for hydroelectric dams. I am fairly certain that was the brand on some I saw in operation on a secondary river in the late seventies near my hometown in KS. I do know they built electric motors. I was just looking at the ID plates on a couple 500 hp jobs in the refinery I work in just the other day, I think they were 70s vintage as well. I know another system there built in the late 80s has a pair as well, those are smaller 75hp I believe.
