Funny you make that explicit remark. I worked tug boats my Jr. and Sr. high school summers and one of those falls, I "invested" in my first vehicle....a 47 Chebby, hot water 6, babbit beariing pickup with 3 on the tree as I recall. In checking the oil at the used car lot the oil looked really black and thick.....my first thought was that I will stop by the filling station and get some oil and change it first thing. The truck wasn't smoking when I bought it.
Changed the oil to something like 30W HD and cranked her up.....you would have thought I had a mosquito spraying machine....the thing just made a big bluish fog. I don;t remember what I did with it but I was a happy camper when I drove it off the lot.....short lived glitter!
