After market ignition parts are known for being bad or wrong straight out of the box.
Carefully retrace all components of the ignition, especially the points and condenser, the distributor condition, and spark condition at each plug. Exhaust backfire is a sign of intermittent loss of spark, bad points, loose connection, bad ignition switch.
Do you have a vacuum gauge? Try checking the vacuum and look at the troubleshooting guide that comes with it.
I’m thinking that has a Siamese manifold, which can burn through between the intake and the exhaust. That will act like a bad vacuum leak.
The other thing that comes to mind is dry valve guides, causing slow valve closing, sticking at speed.
