As far as I know the longest surviving largely unchanged design/model of discbine which says something. Newer models like this have sectional hex shaft and wider flats on the pod gears.
Several in our area are maybe 25-30 years into cutting 300-400 acres a year. Many of the oldest ones moved into backup role now but the gear module design is fault tolerant and has prevented the spectacular life ending bar meltdown that kills the spur gear bar designs when they are old.
