The fuel oil should be fine to mix with your diesel fuel. I would recommend draining it into pails and let it set then run it through a screen or something to filter it (coffee filter ,cloth etc) when you pour it into the tank. I have pumped out several fuel oil tanks for the fuel oil over the years and older tanks can have some sediment in the bottom and the fuel can be black looking even in indoor tanks. Obviously if the fuel oil looks rough find an alternate use for it like washing parts.
