These filter out 95 percent of particles over 0.3 microns. The coronavirus particle is 0.1 to 0.2 microns so it may filter out some, but not all virus particles. According to recent information the virus is spread mostly by contact. The masks keeps people from touching their mouth and nose. Workers wearing N95 repirators at Wouhan hospital did not get coronavirus. At least ten of the workers at the hospital not wearing repirators came down with coronavirus yet those wearing repirators came into patient contact 7.5 times more often. If this information is correct then masks do help.
A red blood cell is about 3 microns by 7 microns. Most bacteria are over 0.3 microns.
