WNY Bill, I will respect your assessment of a Frontier or a Tacoma for your needs. Here's my story- had a '98 taco that had frame rust and toyota bought it off me for a very generous price. I took that money and bought a Toyo 4-Runner that as you know is essentially a Taco SUV. I still have it with 260K miles on it. 2 years ago I bought a Tacoma with 100K on it and it now has 130K. It has not been as trouble free as the 4Runner (alternator went out, rear shox replace, and this weekend I will replace the front wheel bearings which I understand is a common problem... $320 for that). Those are minor things I guess. It also developed a leak in one of the steel lines to the trans oil cooler and ran all the transmission oil out. Also developed a leak in one of the metal brake lines above the driver side rear wheel, $400 to fix that. Those fluid line leaks should not be happening. As a poster said, I think the higher price on the used market is just due to the higher demand for Tacomas. I think they are both good little trucks (despite my personal experience with mine). Just be sure to properly determine your needs which you pretty much did, except you did not say engine type. I have the V6 but probably could have gotten by with the 2.7L 4 cyl. As you know those come a little cheaper.
