I have successfully charged 8 volt batteries using a 12 volt charger HOWEVER I
1) Use a low charge rate (NOT any high current high voltage settings) and 2) Keep a close eye on the electrolyte levels to avoid over charging excess boil over. Don't let electrolyte fall below plates. 3) NEVER leave it on long term unattended, such may risk damage to the battery
IE Don't let it overcharge !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
An 8 volt battery if full charged at rest and stabilized would read around 8.4 volts and a typical charge voltage might be in the 9 to 10+ volt range. If a 6 volt charger has a setting which would raise the battery voltage above 8.4 volts it could work also.
