This is what I was wondering -- if it was a coupler that has slid sideways and has uncoupled perhaps jumping back and forth ( a snap ring broken or not installed correctly????). I haven't heard of many pto drives wearing out on the splines -- it happens occasionally on the older case powershift models but that isnt pto. I believe that it wasent wear in that case but the rivets letting go that held the female spline hub. In any case not a viable fix in the great white north in the winter out doors.
