OK, I graduated High School in 1970, worked that summer at the local JD dealer. I was hired to help assemble machinery and ended up helping the head mechanic in the shop. I watched/helped him repair a generator. I remember him holding a hacksaw blade against the armature, didn't remember him having it on a growler. Also remember him putting the armature in a jig of some sort and truing the commutator and then it had something that he ran up and down in the grooves in the commutator.
