Years ago, I was a member of the Army "Presidential Honor Guard", based at Ft. Myer, across the river from downtown Wash DC (next to Arlington Nat'l Cemetery). We had a drill field, used a lot for retirements of political big shots and generals. The field was about 2 city blocks long. At 5 PM we had to fire one round with a 75 mm cannon located at one end of the field, blank shell to make loud noise signifying end of military day. We fired that thing and saw a black squirrel come flying out the bore...and it was burning as it flew the length of the field. Thereafter, we always had to check the bore before firing. LA in WI
