Well, I've considered either! Trusses would be more expensive than running a center beam, and doing a stacked / rafter style roof, however I desperately need 12 feet of clearance one way or another in between poles to get equipment in. Our other two big buildings only have 10 feet, and I can't fit a couple pieces of equipment in.
It makes more sense to me at this point to do only 2 beams, one on each side, and set clear span trusses on top of them. The beams would be sitting on / lag bolted into large poles standing up right of course, I would say 6x6 size, but they will be full trees, not milled.
I also feel like it would be fairly easy to just lag bolt each truss directly to the I beam, I would just have to measure and pre drill a hole every 16 or 24" down the beam, depending on what center to center of truss would be.
