Merry Christmas to all of you!!! I am now assembling my JD "H" and am not sure about the timing of the cam to the crank. The cam and it's gear both have the "V" to align the gear to the cam, so that is clear. I found a very clear punch mark on the crank gear and a punch mark on the left side face (towards the flywheel) of the cam gear. The crank mark is on the back side of a tooth, while the cam mark is near the bottom of a tooth, but close to a "valley" Are these the punch marks used to align the cam to the crank? Also, is there a mark on the cam gear to time with the mag? Should the crank be in place when I put in the cam, align the cam gear to the crank, and then insert the cam into the cam gear? Thanks for any help for a novice!!! Otis
