Goose, this is only a vague recollection, but I remember seeing a lot of Bill Mauldin cartoons as a kid. He and his associates were "dogfaces". I remember one cartoon showing a bunch of dogfaces curled up in the bottom of a shell hole with their arms over their heads in anticipation of incoming while another sits on the rim of the hole looking down at the zipper of his jacket, holding the pull of the zipper. The dog face asks "Did you ever notice the funny noise that these zippers make?"
