I run a 6 volt solar fence charger. Live in the PNW. One winter I was having problems with keeping the fence hot. Tried different things to no avail. Called the company about it. The guy asked where I lived, told him, his response was "When was the last time I seen the sun?". I said it has been awhile... He said "Think solar powered." I was so embarrassed... Guess I was to busy chasing the horses to think this out on my own... bought their special little charger and a spare battery to rotate out.
