Filters are usually in the return line to the tank. Anywhere else and you can have high pressure. A pressure gauge installed before the filter will tell you when it is getting restrictive. Usually in the 0 to 10 lbs. or there about range. When you see the pressure build above when the filter was clean it is time to change it. Typically a strainer is placed in the suction line and may be in the tank where you don't see it.
