i have used this method before, but be careful and wear safety goggles and stand back when you do. try spraying some carb cleaner or even wd-40 or something similiar around the carb and intake area when the engine is running. if you detect a difference in the running sound/idle then chances are there is a intake air leak. then it would be a simple matter of lightly spraying around the vicinity until you isolate the area. just be careful when using this method and do not stand real close.
