A couple of months back, I had something get sucked into the intake of the 283 in my 65 chevy C20. Upon disassembly, I found a damaged piston. At the time, I decided it would be a better option to replace the piston and rings, than to go with a salvage engine. Apparently that was a bad call. When I finally got it reassembled and started up, it still sounded (and smoked) like a perkins diesel. I called around and the neighbor has a couple of 70's model trucks with small blocks that he is parting out. I guess I will have to go that route. I think I will save the original engine for a full rebuild. My engine hoist didn't work. Somehow the plug came out of the cylinder along with all the oil. I had to use the farmall. I will probably need to get the hoist working for reassembly.
