I live in Minnesota and regularly start gas & tractor engines, at times at 15 below zero. I rarely plug the gas tractors in, even with 6 volt systems. My experience with the magnet heaters is that they are limited to about 200 watts heat, wich is not enough for my larger (85 hp) tractors to do anything noticable. I have mostly tank heaters on my stuff, but block heaters are as good at least. I use 1400 watts in the tank heater, takes about an hour of time before trying to start. (Or 2 hours if I have #2 diesel & summer oil in the crankase. My tank heater is right below the fuel filter, so I can get away with #2 and a lot of Power Service in the fuel to prevent gelling.) I do not like the dipstick heaters _at all_. Never tried one, but I would think it would have a very big chance of cooking the oil as it is a very little bit of heat element in contact with the stiff oil. I would not want to own one. Now, if you have a much smaller engine block, or milder climate, the magnetic heater might be just the ticket for you. The one I have is nice, but just doesn't offer enough heat for my needs on some days. --->Paul

My dad dreamed that some day he would have his own tractor with every implement he could get. When he rea
