The magnetic kind works for me with my gas tractors. Don't know how much difference there is between gas and deisel, though. I like it. Handy to put on or take off, Can use it on any tractor. I usually put it on the bottom of the oil pan. I figure that since heat rises, heating the bottom of the oil pan will eventually heat all of the oil and make cranking/starting easier. And it seems to work. Of course keeping the battery fully charged for cold weather starts is a big plus also.
