I have a '69 JD 1120, which is the equivalent of the American 1630, and closely related to the 1020. 51HP Diesel. 3 Cylinder.
This machine has run fine for many years without too many issues. Till now...While running at 2400 RPM with a 60" rototiller, the engine sputtered out. Engine would not turn over.
I've since resolved a few likely issues, (starter rebuilt, solenoid, rebuilt injector pump (roto-diesel), battery and leads). Replaced all filters, and fluids. Have removed oil pan, and cylinder head cover, which didn't reveal anything obviously missing, bent, or broken. No filings, or mixed fluids in any oil or fuel.
Pulled out the radiator, for the third time, and disconnected the pump drive. Hyd pump seems fine, but shaft on engine side is again stuck.
Two weeks ago, was able to move the pump shaft with large pipe wrench, at which time was able to turn over engine, and did get it going a few times before it QUICKLY shut down. Not a fuel starvation shutdown, much faster. No notable weird noises. After a few times getting it going, it has now seemed be seized again.
Any ideas before the top (and maybe bottom) ends get pulled out?
I am speculating that there might be a broken rod.
