Chains will just give him more traction. In all terms, this will wear out the tranny even faster. The snow blower piles up snow in front of it, as there is more snow than the blower can handle at the speed. With chains, ground speed will probably increase a little, less slipping. Also, chains tug & catch a bit more on ground, so the whole drive train gets more stress & shock. This is not a big worry, but just to mention, chains will increase drivetrain wear, not decrease it. By 'feathering' the tranny, it is best to use it more like an on/off switch, either pushed in or left out. Really overworks it to let it slip a little bit all the time. With my blower it works to let the snow pile up a bit, push in clutch & let the blower clear out the pile, then move again. With different hp, blower size, ground speed, etc. that might not work for all. But I think it is better on the clutch to be on or off, not somewhere in between... --->Paul
