I think most people, especially with new cars and trucks, would disagree with anyone even suggesting that things were better years ago just because one-in-a-hundred buyers might be able to fix a problem. The reliability of cars and trucks these days puts the old ones to shame, hands down. I hear the same thing about wanting to be in a '58 Buick in a head-on collision as opposed to a new Honda Civic for example. Scientific tests show that the guy in the old Buick has a far less chance of surviving.
