You are thinking about the way things were when we were that age.( I am in my late 50�s). There were no cuckoo birds shooting up schools back then. Instead we had fire and air raid drills. The school is trying to prepare for a situation where no one there is prepared to fight back effectively so they do lockdown and things like that. You wouldn�t want that kid to run towards an active shooter and try to take him out with a math book. It is sad that things have come to this but they have. I remember having a gun at school in my truck during hunting season and it never entered my mind to use it on any thing but deer. I am sure military training will make a good fighter out of those who enlist just like firefighters training replaces what we did for a fire drill in school.
