I agree, it sounds like a cold engine, but some of those Kubota engines, at least some of the construction applications, had a magnetic switch-plunger on the side of the pump to either add excess fuel for cold start, or an external magnetic switch-plunger-link mechanism to advance or retard timing for cold starting. Maybe the ag engines didn't use these, but I saw a Construction supervisor order up an o/h on a 4 cyl Kubota that wouldn't start, when all that was wrong was one of those magnetic switches wasn't pulling on the cold starting aid. My experience.
