A load of #6 shot out of the old 16 gauge seems to do a good job on them. It's 50/50 on the spraying though. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. I've shot them with a .22 in the head, same deal. About the only thing that will work 90% of the time is shooting them high middle, and break their back. If you do that, they can't raise their tail to spray. If that doesn't get immediate results, follow up with one to the eye. It usually works pretty well, but when it comes to skunks there are no guarantees. Ask me how I know...
