The one using the hydraulic cyclinder was obviously not well designed. If you chose the right cyclinder (size and stroke) it would work well and probably be easier to use and more reliable than a motor driven. Front end loaders and 3 point lifts don't bend their equipment. You can make hydraulics move as fast or slow as you want. You can design the travel as long or short as you want.
