Are you talking about a 504? I don't think IH ever made a 540. The fast hitch was first available on the Super C in the early 50's, and then on the 300-400 line in late '54 when they replaced the Super H and Super MTA. Changes were made on the fast hitch in the 350-450 line of tractors providing more draft control, and they continued to be available for many years thereafter. It is superior to a 3 point hitch in many ways, but the 3 point prevailed because it was so widely available on other tractors. If you talking about a 504, these are very good tractors. They use the c-153 engine and are very dependable. It is likely to be about 30-35 years old.
