The problem you have is very common with model B. The detent plunger does not sit deep enough in the notch to hold it in gear. I re did a 40 B about 15 years ago and it has never slipped out of gear. It is used regularly to mow around shop. When I got it, it had to be held with wire to keep it in gear. In fact I got the high range notch real deep and it takes a hard whack to get it out of gear. I did a 44B a few years ago and what little it is used--shows--it stays in gear. I have some pix of the rework on the 44. When you hold plunger to the notch, you know what I have told you...Might try search of archives as I have posted about this before. I'm here,try email George
