Yea, I can tell you how to make it safer. Use the correct equipment for the job. If you can't afford the correct equipment use what you have BUT DON'T EXCEED THE LIMITS OF YOUR EQUIPMENT! You can make 2 or 3 trips if needed. You screw up bad enough trying to make it in one trip it could be a one way last trip.
