Before 1950 or so, 9/32 was an often used size, also 19/32, 17/64, and a few others, most old wrench sets had these and other sizes we just don't see today. Your 7/8 wrench was to fit a bolt head on a 7/8 diameter stud, some were called Whitworth size, after the british standard of measurement. Also sometimes referred to machine size. An in depth look at old tools, would fill a pretty thick book, but its fun. John in Nebr.
