I've been "playing" pedal steel since 1976, but started too late in life to get really good at it. The special licks in many songs are what is so great. I watched a You Tube of Winny Winston talking and playing. He made a little run of sliding the bar between frets and pressing A/B pedals as the bar stopped and he commented "You can't do that on a piano - I love it".
