My idea for this repair has never found enthusiastic agreement on this board, but it has worked extremely well for me. Clean the area by HAND sanding smooth to bright metal. Clean with lacquer thinner. Use clear epoxy, the longest setting time you can find. JB Weld has fillers, which help reduce cost and are good for some applications, but not best for this one. Apply the mixed epoxy thinly over the area, place a piece of brown paper ( grocery bag) into the epoxy, work out all the air bubbles, and coat the outside of the paper with epoxy. Place second layer of paper, work out the air bubbles and coat the outside again. Let cure for 48 hours. Then coat the inside of the tank with sealer following the manufacturers instructions. If needed, sand the patch lightly, apply body filler, sand and paint for invisible repair. Knocked 2 holes in truck tank and this repair proved to be permanent-outlasted the truck.
