Assuming this is on an old Farmall, I think you'll find that what the M&W 9-speed does is double the ground speed in reverse and gears 1-4. It will also double the speed of your pto, and the lift-all hydraulic system. It's a useful addition to those old tractors, but it does NOT provide a "shift on the go" transmission.
