The area that I farm is in a dyke up area, low lying land. In the spring of 1965 the river had jammed up with ice and the creek next to our property started to overflow. I was just a tyke but dad had just bought a new 1850 Cockshutt Diesel. It was the biggest tractor on the concession. Dad went out with it to help move people move out of there houses and hauled all the one neighbours pigs. He parked what ever equipment he could on higher ground, the only place being our creek bank. At the end of the second day of the flood dad went to park the tractor on the creek bank, he backed up a little to far and in it went. All that was sticking out of the creek was the air breather and the muffler and it was still running. dad and my uncle said it ran for about 20 or 30 minutesUnder water before it sucked up some water and quit. They had a heck of a time getting it pulled out. It went to the dealer to be dried out but it never was right after its bath.
