Good way to make used of the tops, no splitting needed. I make use of the tops leaving just the brush behind. I think this darned ash borer made it over this way, was in the woodlot where there is a bunch of mountain ash, and I have seen a few others not looking so well. No road in there, but I punched a hole through, time to get in there. I wonder how long you have just for firewood before it's punked out. No real saw log looking ones like yours in the photo, but the power company dropped a nice size one over and across the property line, enough for me to find a way to get it if the neighbor don't want it. I can't get back out to the woods until I get this years logs cut and split anyways, at least I got that far, hopefully by the end of the month.
