Had that happen on ours. You need to lube the variator weights on the engine. Use some powdered graphite for lube and be careful as to not get any on the belt or sheave surfaces that the belt rides in. You already got the plastic cover off and that's the hard part. Once you lube it and before you put the cover back on, rev the engine up a few times in neutral to cycle the variator. Should free up and work properly.
