I found by reading old posts other boards that it is good to chain an old tire rim, the bigger the better, to the stump and pull over the rim. That makes it an upward pull. An alternative is to chain the stump to a bigger stump or tree and pull sideways on the middle of the chain which doubles the force. Wrapping the chain around the stump so it twists the stump when pulling helps. Rule #1 pull in reverse from the front so the tractor won't flip or put the chain under a blade on the rear so if the tractor starts to flip the blade will dig in. When I was younger and dumber I would pull stumps with a 9N by pulling from the rear until I started a wheelie. When the front end was 2 feet off the ground I would stomp the clutch and let it pop out when the front end was a foot from the ground. The chain would tighten up smartly and snatch the stump looser and keep the front end from banging down. Looking back I don't know how I or the tractor lived through it but I know the old Ns have a lot of beef that sort of makes up for low HP. When I was putting my 9N on the trailer and I let out the clutch too fast it would jerk the trailer and the pickup truck almost a foot before the tractor started to move. Sonny
