How heavy is your truck? How much experience you got pulling a load? Farmers around here pull 150 bu. grain (9000#), 6-8 bales of cotton (12000#) all the time without brakes. Never seen a wrecked one. This is with heavy duty 3/4 or 1 ton pickups. But, if I were buying new, I would go on and spend the few extra dollars for the brakes. This will still not guarantee you'll be safe.....a lot more depends on your actions than on your equipment.
