: I have a Massey 50 that I have had to put the charger on too often - with a new battery. I took off the generator and the regulator and had them gone over by a good specialist. He said they are now fine. It is still draining the battery. One thing I noticed is that the ammeter goes to charge when I turn on the headlights, instead of discharge and doesn't move otherwise. When I reinstalled the generator and regulator I carefully replaced all the wiring as it had been when I removed them and now I wonder if the wires on the generator might have been reversed when I got the tractor last summer. Both wires are the same size so I can't tell which is the field. Can somebody help with a suggestion as to what I should try next? 1) Make sure the battery is connected to the ground properly(POS ground vs NEG ground). 2) Find a wiring diagram(in the shop manual or on the internet)and trace your wiring. This should do it. 3) When you remove a generator and put it back on, sometimes it needs to be repolarized. 4) If above doesn't work I would look for a short in the wiring,switch,gauges,etc...that could be drawing off current. GOOD LUCK!
