I've held back on this thread....until now.
I doubt that larger sized electric road vehicles will really catch on until either:
1. a suitable, high efficiency, low cost substitute for batteries comes along (could capacitors still be a possible answer?) or
2. until batteries are no longer needed because vehicles will be able to get electric via power units that send electric wirelessly to moving vehicles.
Until then, the weight of batteries, the ever-growing regulatory efforts and the lack of range will all keep the battery units from taking widespread use.
I can see in the not-so-distant future a change that includes raising the price of petrol vehicles to cover the costs of EV's. As expensive as pickups are, I'd say that might have already began.
