I found a utube video that said you want the shaft 2 to 3 inches away from the tractor pto when the shaft is fully collapsed. This will give you 4 to 5 inches of travel when hooked up. Right now I can hook up my shaft but it is a tight fit so I will take off 2 to 3 inches off. That should give me way more than 5 inches of contact area when extended.
My old shaft was the kind that only the end piece made contact. I will have to look at this new shaft and see what type it is.
