We just had a huge 500 kV transmission line run across our land, 1/2 mile, took 13 acres. They paid us fair market value for the land, but it's still our land. If it was farm land it could still be farmed, but it was timber, so we will never get any income from it again, can't grow trees under a line. Most of it is over a bedrock ridge, so there weren't a lot of trees anyhow, we got about 10K for the timber. They cut it and piled it up, we sold it. We really had no choice, the route was determined years ago, zig-zaged around to avoid native land!
