Chris the 1/4-28 grease fittings are SAE thread/standard bolt thread. The 1/8 are NPT- National Pipe Thread. So they are way bigger of a thread than the 1/4 ones.
On the pins that would not take grease. Heat the pin/sleeve up. Even if you do not have a cutting torch even just a propane torch will often soften old dried out grease and rust. So heat it up while trying to push new grease through.
I have had to split the sleeve with a cutting wheel to get some pins to take grease. Then open the slot with a chisel before welding the slot shut. If you do not open the slot the weld cooling will shrink enough to lock the pin.
