The Big Block V-6's were made from 1960 to 1974 in medium & heavy duty trucks, '60 to '66 in pickups. Guy Dad drove for hauling livestock had a '56-'57 GMC single axle semi-tractor with the Pontiac V-8. Sure ran circles around the CO-190 IH's with RD-450 in line 6's. Guy even had a Chevy C70 similar to the GMC B-model with a Toro-flow diesel in it. At that time he had a single axle and a twin-screw Emeryville but the little Chevy diesel did get good mpg, had power steering, once Dad disconnected the upright exhaust pipe mounts on the upper cab corners which resonated noise thru the whole cab only inches from your head Dad could drive it for hours, not minutes before the headaches started. Lot easier to get in/out of than an Emeryville. Every small town had at least one livestock trucking company, some had 3 or 4. Livestock trucks were the last trucks to stop using gasoline engines and adopt diesels. Lots of farmers thought diesel exhaust was hazardous to their animals. Think I agree with them, we hook Dad's 4010 Deere diesel to the feed grinder exactly one time, it had an exh extension on the muffler, exhaust went up into the floor joists of the grain bins over the driveway, did a 180 straight down and the cooling fan blew it back where I was scooping the ear corn. In about 5 minutes I was seeing all kinds of pretty colors, twinkling lights, could barely stand. The gas powered Farmall M or Super H got grinder duty after that. Anyhow, GMC was a popular truck, IH was probably #1, and some trucking companies only ran Ford Trucks. Few Whites, and about as many Chevy's.

Today's Featured Article - My Ford Golden Jubilee - by Troy Estes. This article is about my '53 Ford Jubilee and a story that starts with taking the tractor to my brother's Starter/Alternator Rebuilding shop for a wiring fix. The generator was shot as well as all the wiring. I dropped off the tractor expecting a transformation from a 6 volt to a 12 volt system utilizing the original generator housing, and a total rewiring of the whole tractor. The front end center pin bushing was worn also so I ask that they replace it if they had time. Well, that’s wha
